OOC: Care and Feeding of Sith Lords
Darth Vader will be arriving in Fandom tomorrow, so I wanted to get this up today and prepare you all :)
So which Darth Vader is this? FH!Vader's background of angst and woe
Anakin Skywalker went home, made all the mistakes that we knew he was destined to in Episodes II and III and is now back as Darth Vader. He's returned to Fandom after just making the second worst mistake (after, you know, turning to the Dark Side. Idiot.) in his life: he allowed the Emperor's Death Star to be blown up.
The disaster was compounded by it being his son—someone he hadn't known had even existed, thanks to Obi-Wan's decades-long deception—who had made the final assault. The Emperor gave Vader a choice: turn the boy to the Dark Side as a way of compensation for the loss or get prepared to be replaced.
And Dark Lords don't exactly have retirement plans.
So when Vader discovered that Luke was heading to Fandom, he made arrangements to end up there as well.
It 's been twenty-five years and quite literally a different lifetime since he'd been here, he thought. It's not like he'd know anyone. And they couldn't recognize him, even if they had known Anakin—what had made him Anakin had died in the Jedi Temple years ago.
And if heading to Fandom was going to cause Vader any additional heartache, well, it wasn't like that was going to make the Emperor lose sleep at night.
So Vader packed up his lightsaber, his TIE fighter and twenty years of training as one of the most formidable bad guys his galaxy has ever known, and headed back to Earth.
And before you ask, yes, I am that evil.
So if you were a student at Fandom High last year, Vader will remember you. And not particularly fondly.
Vader knows me! Do I know him?
Nope. Unless you are actually a god (*waves at Faithful*), Obi-Wan (*waves at dead!Obi-Wan*) or the Emperor, you won't recognize Darth Vader as Anakin Skywalker. Physically speaking, he's taller (6'6"), his voice is deeper (James Earl Jones rather than Hayden Christensen) and he's covered entirely in a black suit (complete with iconic face mask) to keep him alive after losing all of his limbs, being burnt alive by lava and then being left for dead by Obi-Wan.
Not that he's bitter. Really.
And while Obi-Wan might've been putting a very positive spin on the matter by telling Luke that Vader betrayed and murdered Anakin, in my mind there was a psychic break the moment Anakin pulled out his lightsaber and killed the younglings in Episode III. The part that made him Anakin died right then. The Jedi he then went around merrily slaughtering after he got his mask and cloak combination had no idea he was the Chosen One, so I'm extending that lack of knowledge to any psychic types who live in Fandom.
If you have a compelling canon case to make arguing otherwise, I'm more than happy to hear it, but for right now, Vader is Vader and Anakin is dead. The fact that he's projecting pretty much solid evil is totally up for being picked up, but any kind of prophetic dreams, secret Special Collection documents or random other ways of finding out the link between Vader & Anakin? Off limits. When he wants it revealed, he'll do it.
Why, no, this wasn't an elaborate set-up so I could re-enact the "Luke, I am your father" scene. *looks shifty* Honestly.
So what about that redemption story arc in Episodes IV – VI?
That, my friends, is what Luke is for. And since I'm playing both characters, let me take this moment to mention that Luke has fully bought Obi-Wan's line about Vader killing Anakin. He will be telling anyone who asks about it.
I'm more than fine with Anakin's friends hating Vader with the fiery passion of a thousand detonated Alderaans, but if you're planning on forming up a mob with pitchforks and torches to try to kill him, please don't.
Vader is evil. Not irredeemably evil, of course (see also: End of Episode VI), but right now he's pissed with a hefty helping of homicidal. He's been a Sith Lord for 20 years and he's damn good at it. He stood by and watched a planet being blown up without blinking (metaphorically speaking, since with the mask you wouldn't be able to tell if he was actually blinking) and that was just serving as an object lesson. His normal method of dealing with incompetence or stupidity is, well, eliminating it.
He is not a nice guy. Posturing, threatening, and acts of power, especially from a student, will not impress him. At all.
Crap. I'm taking his class. Am I going to die?
Of course not. He might really, really wish it at certain points, but he's not allowed to kill anyone on campus (random NPC Stormtroopers might be in trouble…). He'll be extremely liberal in handing out detentions if you annoy him, though—either because of something you say in class or because he remembers you as being annoying while he was here. There will be an OOC comment link in every class post to ping into if you're up for getting detention and I'll ping you through email or IM if you're starting to tread on the Sith Lord's already predisposed-to-be-cranky nerves.
As you might've guessed from his syllabus, Vader's take on ethics isn't a normal person's take on ethics. That being said, this isn't a class out to traumatize your character (other than the fact that it's being taught by a 6'6" embodiment of darkness), so while Vader will be espousing the "yay, evil" viewpoint, you are more than free to argue the other side.
So. Questions? Comments? Funny stories? Witty anecdotes?
