Anakin had been preparing for the weekend when a familiar presence made itself known. He reached for his comlink before he'd given it a moment's thought.

He needed to tell Ahsoka now.

Over in the salle, Ahsoka turned off her lightsabers so she could answer her comm.

"Master?"

Anakin was using a tone he hadn't in a very long time--one that was tightly controlled because of the fear underneath. "You need to leave the island right now."

Well, that got her attention.

"Anakin? What's wrong?" she asked, frowning and not just because of his tone, now that she'd stopped her exercises, the room felt far cooler than it should have.

"There's a Jedi hunter on campus. You need to leave now before he tracks your presence," Anakin said.

Later Ahsoka would find the time to process how she felt about how easily she could just up and go with what was close to hand, but right now she had just two concerns, one was where she should head, the other...

"What about you?" She couldn't leave him, not again.

"I've faced him before," Anakin said, "and I need to protect the other students. There are some that might catch his attention that aren't necessarily Force-sensitive. I'll be fine. You will not be."

"But, Master..." Anakin was probably going to be nostalgic for the days when his Padawan shut up and did what she was told without arguing. At least, he would have been if those days had ever actually existed.

At least Ahsoka could walk and argue at the same time, especially since she was going to have to take a long way around if she wanted to get to the causeway without being seen.

"No, 'but Master'," Anakin said, not that he really believed this would work. "This man is deadly and I don't want him within a planet of you."

Maybe if he was talking to an Ahsoka who wasn't plagued by nagging 'what ifs' or who hadn't been able to read between the lines of Caleb telling her about Mster Billaba...no, probably not even then.

Ahoka swung herself up onto a roof and started leaping from from rooftop to rooftop. "And I'm supposed to want him near you?" Never mind her options for getting off off-planet were limited to the point of non-existence. "Wait, is he the reason you're in that body?"

"No," Anakin said, which was true...from a certain point of view. "Obi-Wan and I will handle this. You know we can."

Ahsoka might have been more ready to believe that if she hadn't previously felt her connection to her Anakin just end. "But what if you can't?"

[sith_happened]

"Then you'll still have survived to fight another day," Anakin said. "If he takes out two Jedi Masters, Ahsoka, what chance would you have had?"

Well, one of them was getting stabbed in the face on Malachor and it wasn't her...

"I... don't want to be alone again," Ahsoka admitted, dropping to the ground once she'd reached the road leading to the causeway.

Anakin let out a low, pained sigh. "And I understand that," he murmured. "Truly, do. But your physical safety is more important right now, Padawan."

Ahsoka honestly considered using the 'not being your Padawan any more means you don't get to order me around' tactic but considering she'd been calling him Master nearly the entire conversation...

"...yes, Master."

Anakin located her in the Force and sent out a quick burst of comfort through it. "We'll see you in class Thursday."

"You'd better." Or she'd find some way to make him pay for being dead.

"Ahsoka? May the Force be with you," Anakin murmured.

[snipsnspecks]

"And with you, Anakin," Ahsoka replied softly.
