Anakin wasn't hiding in his office. He wasn't sulking, either. He was brooding. It was an entirely different vibe! He left the door slightly open and sat there with the lesson plan and a cup of black coffee.

Which he enjoyed. Really.

Peridot... also looked dubious. And perhaps a tiny bit shifty.

"... Of course. If anything changes, you'll know."

Because boom.

"Good," Anakin said.

Boom was extremely bad.

Especially while you were still on the crummy mudball of a planet at the time.

Peridot fidgeted a little more, and then glanced back toward the door.

"In case that... does change... How quickly might one be able to get a drill like that ready?"

Hypothetically.

"I'd need to make a few calls," Anakin hedged. "My granddaughter lives in a version of our home galaxy."

And might actually answer, unlike Cade.

There was another pause for consideration, and then Peridot sighed and nodded her head.

"Portalocity hasn't been able to provide a means for me to get back to my reality, Earth or otherwise," she said, finally. "But if that changes, and if there's still a roughly Earth-sized inhabited planet about to explode when it does... there's a distinct possibility that there could be a need for that."

Anakin nodded. "Portalocity is terrified of Jaina. We might be able to use that for leverage, should it come down to it."

Peridot seemed to be satisfied with that reply. She chewed at the inside of her cheek for a moment, and then stood.

"Then I will inform you if there are any changes," she said, finally. "I don't know the exact date or time that the Cluster is going to manifest. It was my job to check on its progress- a job that was interrupted somewhat disastrously. There's a solid possibility that it's already too late."

Frankly, it would be easier for her if it was.

"But it's not confirmed," Anakin said. "Therefore, there's still hope. Thank you for telling me, Peridot."

[era_two_triangle]

"You're... welcome." Peridot was apparently also bad at accepting gratitude. "And I appreciate your helping me to put things into some manner of perspective."

Because stars, did she ever need it.

Anakin smiled. "I'm a teacher. My job--my life--is to help you learn."

[era_two_triangle]

"Even if I'm loyal to Yellow Diamond?"

Who wanted to blow up a planet not unlike Earth, and all? Because this conversation wasm't going to shake a lifetime of programmed-in loyalty, Anakin. Even if it did make her wonder if there really was a way to save the planet.

"Even then," Anakin said. "You have to choose your own path. No one can choose it for you."

[era_two_triangle]

"I'm never going to get used to hearing that," Peridot sighed. "But it's a nice thought. I think maybe I can live with the idea."

Unless she got broken for it first.

Anakin gave her a tiny smile. "Try it on for size. It might suit you."
