Office hours [all day]

Anakin had been in his office working on new and fiendish ethics scenarios for his new students (mwahaha) when his comlink went off.

After a short discussion with Luke, he hung up, a stunned look on his face.

"I'm a grandfather."

After several years of being a grandfather in various dimensions, it didn't seem possible to have another Jaina and Jacen to love and look out for...

...another Jacen. From the very beginning.

Maybe this version of their family wouldn't end up a tragedy.

Jaina didn't get to stop by nearly enough these days, so today she was standing in the doorway. "You look interesting," she noted.

"Happy birthday," Anakin said with a tiny smile. "Well, back home, anyway. I didn't even think to ask what day it was there--but I bet you'd know."

[solo_sword]

She looked faintly confused. "Thanks, but my birthday was like a month ago. Though my time syncs up kind of weird..."

[sith_happened]

"So does Luke's," Anakin's said. "Leia just had her babies. She named them Lando and Padme."

Anakin thought he was hilarious.

[solo_sword]

"That's cute," she said, taking a seat. "...Congratulations?"

It was weird giving congratulations on this. Seriously.

[sith_happened]

"Yeah, it's weird," Anakin agreed. "I've been a grandfather here for so long...but not of babies."

[solo_sword]

"Well... at least you have experience with babies by now?" This really was a weird situation when you thought about it.

[sith_happened]

Anakin winced. "So my son is now a year older than my twin grandchildren. That's not strange at all."

[solo_sword]

"You've also got a six-year-old great-granddaughter," Jaina said. "This was never really gonna be normal."

Anakin thunked his head into his desk. "I feel like I should grow a goatee, cut my hair, get a really expensive car and have a proper midlife crisis. Good idea?"

[solo_sword]

"I say go full beard or nothing, but otherwise it sounds like a solid plan," she replied. She was actually pretty used to the head-thunking by now.

[sith_happened]

"You don't want to see me try to grow a full beard," Anakin told the desk. "Obi-Wan had his just to mock my complete inability to grow one too."

[solo_sword]

"All right, skip the facial hair then," she said. "Is that comfortable?"

[sith_happened]

"My desk?" Anakin asked. "Not really, no."

[solo_sword]

"Then maybe talk to me instead of to it?" Jaina suggested.

[sith_happened]

"All right," Anakin said, lifting his head. "I'm thinking of going back to see them."

[solo_sword]

"Have you talked to Luke about that?" she asked, since she didn't know the state of how things were between all of them these days.

[sith_happened]

"Only briefly," Anakin said. "He had other calls to make. He said Leia was all right with it, which was my main concern."

Pause.

"Well, that and getting recognized."

[solo_sword]

"To be fair, everyone thinks you're dead," Jaina pointed out. "And even if there was a chance you were alive, you shouldn't be looking the age you do."

Which was why she hadn't really worried about him visiting her after Jacen died.

[sith_happened]

Anakin nodded. "Or the way I do. And it's not like I'd stalk through the corridors in Jedi robes."

[solo_sword]

"So really, if you want to go, I wouldn't worry about that hurdle," she told him.

[sith_happened]

"Do you think I should?" Anakin asked.

[solo_sword]

"It's not about what I think," Jaina replied. "If it was me, and Mom was okay with it, then I'd go. But keep in mind that at least in my world, Dad's not your biggest fan."

[sith_happened]

"In any world, your father is not going to be my biggest fan."

Drop a guy in carbonite and he holds it against you forever...

"I didn't want it to be a big deal--I wouldn't take Rory or the kids. Just me, in and out. I just want to see them, make sure they're okay."

Make sure Jacen was innocent and cute...

"Will you regret it if you don't go?" Because that would be his answer.

Anakin was quiet as he thought that over. "I think I will," he said. "I regret missing the wedding."

[solo_sword]

"Then go," Jaina said simply. "Don't add to regrets there."

[sith_happened]

"And hopefully Rory won't make me carry my body weight in baby stuff to give them," Anakin said with a little smile.

[solo_sword]

"That can be shipped. Also, I'm not going to remember anything anyone gives me till I'm about two, so." And that was what was important, come on.

[sith_happened]

"Stuffed banthas for everyone, then," Anakin said with a small smile.

[solo_sword]

Jaina thought about it. "I could go for a stuffed bantha."

[sith_happened]

"Now?" Anakin teased. "I thought you were more into weaponry these days."

[solo_sword]

"I'm thinking for hypothetical really tiny me," she clarified. "The stuffed bantha would be for Allana."

[sith_happened]

"I'll buy a few," Anakin promised. "Christopher has practically torn off an ear from his."

[solo_sword]

"That just means he likes it." She assumed.

[sith_happened]

"He drags it everywhere," Anakin said. "Literally. Drags."
