The Emperor had woken Vader up before dawn.

Again.

And demanded he come back to check on the Death's Star's progress.

Again.

Which meant Vader would be spending days stuffed into his TIE fighter and flying out to Endor.

Again.

So he was in a pissy mood.

Again.

Vader inclined his head. "I may grant you China," he said. "But only if I have the rest of the planet."

Aeryn does a really good 'bitch, please' face. See?

Vader could've been smiling under the helmet.

Probably not, though.

"I've had another 20 years to practice strategy," he pointed out.

"Doesn't mean you can win at a board game," she smiles.

"I might cheat," Vader said.

He wouldn't.

"And then you would get soldiers thrown at you."

She would.

Vader knew it, too.

"I could duck."

"You're going to duck in that suit?" she asks.

"I'm very spry."

"Of course, they would probably bounce right off you anyway..."

"I wouldn't recommend trying that theory," Vader replied.

"Then no cheating," she says simply.

"Treachery is the way of the Sith," Vader recited. He paused. "Perhaps I could make an exception."

"Good," Aeryn says. "After all, it's just a game."

Says the girl who'd still fistfight for China a year later.

Vader snorted. "We both know that's not entirely accurate."

"It should be just a game," she amends. "We just make it interesting."

Force, but he missed her.

"Slightly less casualties than real war," he said.

"Probably only due to the lack of weaponry." And she might be having too much fun with this.

"Perhaps we should tell the company to include some in their next version," Vader mused. "It certainly would've made our last game much less annoying."

"I don't actually remember much about the other people, actually," Aeryn admits. "Other than them not winning."

"Bridge wasn't even paying attention and he was holding his own," Vader snarled. "That's not strategy. That's using your powers to cheat."

Of course he remembered.

He remembered every slight, real or imagined, that had ever happened to him.

Which was why he was the petty, petty, deeply miserable man now in front of Aeryn.

"It was twenty cycles ago and he won't be involved this time," she says evenly. "Fair game."

Vader nodded. "Deal."

"I should go," she says, noting that this is the first time they've had an entire discussion that didn't end in yelling or someone's emo. She likes that. "Because now I have to find the game."

And then hide it so John won't ask questions she'd have to lie in response to, but she's not saying that out loud.

"I will see you next week, then?" Vader asked, trying not to sound hopeful.
