Office hours [all day Thursday]

Anakin was in his office with Christopher today (Rory was home sleeping off an election-related caffeine crash).

He was a little disappointed not to see the elephants and donkeys around any more: they would have kept the baby entertained for a while.

But then, Anakin reflected as he watched his son, Chris's own fists kept him entertained well enough...

"I didn't get you shot. You should have ducked. I got shot too, you know," she pointed out. "Coma and everything here."

"I'm glad you got better," Anakin said. "Please don't steal my son next time."

He frowned. "I've said stranger things, but none that spring immediately to mind."

"I really am sorry about that," Jaina frowned. "I hope that me never tries to top that..."

[sith_happened]

"Me too," Anakin said. "You'll definitely be out of the will."

[solo_sword]

"What if I just stick to marrying Sam Winchester or something?" she tried.

[sith_happened]

Anakin burst out laughing. "I kissed him once when we were students together."

[solo_sword]

"Oh, there was absolutely no reason I needed to know that," Jaina said. "That's just going to make the inevitable marriage weird."

[sith_happened]

"And I think he's engaged to a guy," Anakin added helpfully.

[solo_sword]

"That part doesn't bother me unless it makes his fiance mad," she admitted. Fandom was to blame for at least part of that reasoning.

"Peter's generally pretty understanding," Anakin replied.

[solo_sword]

"Plus I think he still owes me one from back when we first got here for trying to scare off my date," Jaina mused. "It'd be a good situation to call that in. It's so wrong that I'm planning for this."

"A little," Anakin admitted, "but it's good to be prepared?"

[solo_sword]

"I'll take that reasoning," she said. "Did you do anything else weird?"

Please say yes.

"I think I ordered a hit on Jamie Madrox," Anakin said. "And disowned Luke."

[solo_sword]

"Why did you disown Luke?"

Jaina liked Jamie. But the only surprise in anyone ordering a hit on him was that it'd taken a weird weekend to do so.

Anakin chuckled. "For becoming a Congressman."

[solo_sword]

"I know I was really annoyed about it there," Jaina said. "And to think, if it happened in real life it'd almost seem normal for our family."

[sith_happened]

"Practically a demotion," Anakin said with another laugh.

[solo_sword]

"Somewhere out there, Mom and Jag are both twitching and don't know why..." she said.

[sith_happened]

Anakin laughed. "I'm sure Padme would have been none too pleased either."

[solo_sword]

"This should not be genetic," she decided. "And yet."

Since she knew even Sia was screwed there generations later.

[sith_happened]

"We seem to have a talent for it," Anakin replied. "Well, those of you who don't take after me."

[solo_sword]

"Well," she said, "Jacen did. Though I wouldn't say he was very good at it."

Since Daala was preferable now.

[sith_happened]

"Taking after me?" Anakin replied softly.

[solo_sword]

"I meant leading anything. If he'd really been good at taking after you, I wouldn't have had to kill him," Jaina said. She still wasn't convinced it wasn't Jacen she killed, and that he hadn't been himself at the end. But she'd had zero reason to believe that until the last possible second, too. "I wasn't trying to bring this down, sorry."

Anakin waved it off. "My fault," he said, which were two words he hadn't put next to each other until a few years ago.

"I'm all right with leading," he said. "Just not with politics."

[solo_sword]

"Same. I think if I ever went into politics I'd be the first to publicly slug an opponent," she said. "Which would probably up my popularity."

[sith_happened]

"Most of them could stand to be hit at least a few times," Anakin declared.

[solo_sword]

"I've mentioned that to Jag. He laughs, and then sighs a lot," she said.

[sith_happened]

"Especially the moffs," Anakin added.

[solo_sword]

"And that will start a rant," she said. "Though I think he's figuring out better how to deal with them. The rants are slightly quieter now."

[sith_happened]

"As long as they aren't just wearing him down," Anakin replied.

[solo_sword]

"He's the only person I'll outright say has ever outstubborned me," Jaina said. "I don't think that'll even be an issue."

Shh, she was a little proud of him for that, too.

"That's pretty stubborn," Anakin admitted, sounding a little impressed.

[solo_sword]

"He grew up with the Chiss," she shrugged, like that explained everything.

[sith_happened]

It kind of did. "Oh, that's right."

[solo_sword]

"Really, the fact that I can beat him in arguments even half the time is impressive," she said. "Not that he'll admit it. But it happens."

[sith_happened]

"Well of course he won't admit it," Anakin said with a chuckle. "He's a man."

[solo_sword]

"Thank you!" she said. "This is what I've been saying!"

[sith_happened]

"Don't tell him I sold out our gender," Anakin said, eyes sparkling. "You're my granddaughter. The lines of whose side I'm supposed to take get very blurry."

"Mine," she teased. "Always mine."

[sith_happened]

"That's what I figured," Anakin admitted.
