The door was cracked open, but anyone coming near him carrying a bell was going to get tossed into a wall.

When Jaina checked her phone and saw what day it was in Fandom, she made sure to find some time to make a call. Since after all she hadn't talked to her grandfather since her wedding day.

Which would explain his incoming call.

"Skywalker," he replied without checking the number.

"Hello to you, too," Jaina greeted him.

Anakin cracked a smile. "Jaina. And how are you, several weeks past your wedding?"

"You know, I still can't feel clean?" she replied.

"That makes some sense," Anakin admitted. "His facial hair alone--"

"It actually was worse when I met him for real," Jaina admitted.

"The facial hair?" Anakin sounded appalled. "How?"

Raven had no bell. Raven had no Bel. And if Raven had been in Jamie's class yesterday, there would have been an epic scolding.

"Good morning, Professor Skywalker," she greeted him, wondering what was causing the mood she sensed.

Anakin glanced up and smiled. "Good morning, Raven."

"Is something troubling you?" Raven said as she came inside and sat down. "Is there anything I can do to help you?"

"Oh, I just had my pride a little wounded yesterday," Anakin admitted. "Nothing permanent."

Raven frowned. "I am sorry," she said. "I know that can be an unpleasant feeling."

Especially for her.

He nodded. "I don't like being reminded of my younger, stupider days."

[trigons_child]

His younger planet-destroying days? Oh yes, Raven could see why he wouldn't want to be reminded of that. She didn't like to think about that herself.

"I had hoped that once August passed the island would settle back into routine, but it seems that unpleasantries have followed us into September as well," she said.

"Madrox just enjoys making a nuisance of himself," Anakin replied. "He'll find a new target next week."

Zoe had heard the radio, which was why she was standing outside Anakin's office with a bottle of alcohol in her hand, left over from the box she'd received last week. She had a feeling he might need it more than she did.

"Anyone home?" she asked, knocking lightly on the door.

"It depends," Anakin replied. "Are you planning to sing Little Bunny Foo-Foo?"

"Not unless you're dying to hear it. I save that embarrassment for Grace," Zoe said, stepping inside and slightly waving the bottle at him. "I thought you could use some of this. It sounded like your Wednesday wasn't very much fun."

"You are my favorite employer ever," Anakin said with a grin. "Come in. I'll even share."

Zoe smiled and handed the bottle over. "Someone left some alcohol for me, for putting up with Jamie. I think you got it worse this week. He honestly does have a death wish, doesn't he?"

"He really does," Anakin said, pouring a generous amount into an empty coffee mug and handing it to Zoe. "I'd write to complain to the board if I thought they'd care."

[bigdamnprincipal]

"They don't care. None of my calls or loud messages have been answered," Zoe said, taking the mug gratefully. "I think we're keeping him out of their hair somehow."

Anakin was just going to swig straight from the bottle like the classy guy he was.

"So we'll all get thank you notes and unicorns at the end of the semester?" Anakin replied.

Late Thursday

A basket of fruits and chocolates was delivered to Anakin's office.
