Anakin's office [after classes]

Anakin made a run past his office after doing a shift at the Trooper Station (Ralph really was a talker), mostly to check on Katniss's feed. He hadn't been able to get it moved down to his office at the Station.

He listened just long enough to hear the announcement for the interviews with Caeser Flickerman would be starting shortly, to curse quietly to himself, and then to make the calls that were becoming habit by now.

He made sure to put the chairs he'd picked up from the Isle of Ikea out so that everyone would have somewhere to sit and spent his time before his visitors arrived coming up with a list of everything he'd need to provide for them when the Games began in earnest.

The door was closed.

Bod was a little late to things today because he had his shift at the diner but he did arrive and was just as quiet as he had been the first time.

This time when Karla came in, she started setting up her tea supplies. Lavender and chamomile and peppermint; teas that could sooth and relax. It probably wouldn't help much, but Karla knew how much watching these things made her tense and tighten and her stomach roil and she figured she wasn't the only one who felt that way.

...She also had a bottle of Kaeleeran wine with her, though she'd check with Anakin before offering that around. Another bit of small comfort; she had a feeling it might be best for Wesley, at least, to be fuzzy and numb after all of this.

Luke came in as soon as he got the call and took a seat in one of the chairs. He was quiet again today, if only because he didn't have much to offer up here.

It wasn't that Gabrielle ever ran out of small talk. It was just that she did actually realize that there were times when it wouldn't do any good. She had, as had come to be a habit already, her quill and scrolls, and staked out a spot for herself with a good view of the screen and enough room to write.

Alex was not going to start drinking. There were children here, and she was going to be a mature, responsible adult. Therefore, she was going to set an example, and, more than that, she was going to be a reassuring presence to the children who were facing these same horrors that she was. (Worse, because they knew the girl better than she, and some of them weren't yet as jaded as Alex herself was, either.) And that meant no drinking.

She may have been reminding herself of this a lot.

Firekeeper never was all that good at small talk, so the room just got a nod of acknowledgement as she and Blind Seer sauntered in to take their seats.

And what was up with Caesar's makeup?

"If this was supposed to quell the rebellion, it's not doing a very good job," Karla murmured. "All it's doing is arousing Capitol sympathy, considering these are the only folks from the Districts they consider to be human beings anyway."

Having watched previous video of previous games, Bod was still surprised when Katniss caught on fire. He made a little noise and almost wanted to demand someone help her but he wasn't there so he just watched eyes wide.

"Darkness have mercy," Karla said, eyes wide, as Katniss's dress went out and the black feathers remained. Her breath caught. "That was amazing."

Cinna was going to die.

Luke started a bit when Katniss started catching on fire, but quickly realized that it was a show for the Capitol. A smart one too. That'll piss of Snow for sure.

Ghanima pressed her lips together, watching as Cinna took his bow. "I suppose it's far too late to smuggle the boy out of the city, even with all the attention on Katniss," she murmured. "A pity. With his talent, I could easily resettle him anywhere in the Imperium."

Wesley cringed a bit at the sight of that yellow dress, so familiar to the one from last year's interview. But soon she was speaking, and he was hearing her voice for the first time since she'd left, and he wasn't looking anywhere but her face for right now.

God, he missed her.

But then all of a sudden she was twirling, and he saw -- smoke? -- and then her dress was burning up even as she kept twirling, and then --

She was a mockingjay...

"The mockingjay," Gabrielle breathed, completely transfixed by the display, and smiling despite the overall grimness; as symbolism went, this was incredibly powerful.

She was suddenly incredibly worried for Cinna, though; it was a masterpiece of design, unmistakable, and even if the audience had been completely tone-deaf to the other hints of defiance so far, there was no way they could misunderstand this.

Alex frowned as they discussed the ... mockingjay? She'd never heard that before.

Bod's eyes were still wide from the whole 'Katniss caught on fire' thing so they just stayed that way when Peeta made his announcement. It all seemed convenient and...manipulative (in a good way) but it was still surprising to hear.

Now that actually surprised Luke. Again, smart move, but holy crap that came out of nowhere. He wouldn't be surprised if Katniss decked him after the cameras were off.

Wesley choked on his tea. Then he quickly swallowed, wiped his mouth without any dignity whatsoever, and rather pointedly composed himself. Of course it was just strategy. And judging from the reactions of the rest of the Capitol, it could be very useful.

But there had definitely been a moment of alarm there.

". . . huh," was all Gabrielle could say to that; that had definitely come out of nowhere, but it was exactly the sort of ploy she'd have used without batting an eye, if it was necessary to get herself out of a sticky situation. "That'll . . . huh."

Be a difficult pretense for Katniss to keep up, not to mention a shock if she hadn't been expecting Peeta to play that card.

But she nodded with satisfaction; he'd timed and played up the announcement perfectly, and that always went over well to win sympathy.

Luke couldn't help but smile a bit at the tribute's holding hands. Showing unity like that was a big middle finger to the Capitol and nothing could be done about it. It might not even mean much in the end, but they still let their intentions be known anyway.

It all sort of inspired Luke to keep doing what he was doing in his own rebellion. Only, naturally, he hoped his wouldn't end with his untimely death.
