Anakin's office [all day]
Anakin had kept his connection to Panem open ever since the Reaping, hoping to glean information about how the Quell would work from nightly news broadcasts or any other source. If the Capitol felt watching the deaths of dozens of people was a little like a Superbowl, surely there's be some pre-game commentary, right?
He hadn't learned anything all that that useful and his attempts to offer advice to Haymitch had finally resulted in an all caps email reply of "BACK OFF", which left Anakin feeling useless andsulky annoyed. Halfway through the morning, the sounds on the monitor changed and he glanced up, frowned hard, and began making calls.
It was time for opening ceremonies.

Arriving and Mingling
Re: Arriving and Mingling
"Here's what I don't get," she asked Anakin upon arriving. "The citizens of this Capitol. Are they really this bloodthirsty? Or this bored? Every last one of them? There's not a single decent person out of the whole population? Do they not think people from the districts are even human, or do they all deserve it for some decades-old crime that the government probably made up, anyway?"
(OOC: still dealing with computer hell so there might be outages/slowness here and there but i had to, zomg.)

He didn't say anything when he came in, since there wasn't much to say, but he did offer the people already in room a nod when he came in.

With a quick nod to Anakin she slipped in and took a seat to watch. Yes, there was pomp and ceremony involved in this sort of thing, she knew that by now; it didn't make the facts sit any more comfortably with her.

He didn't seek out a seat. He was way too antsy to sit. But he did offer a nod to anyone in the room, fidgeting the whole while.

Districts 1-11!
Re: Districts 1-11!
Not that any of these entrants were kids -- one woman seemed to be elderly, in fact -- but they all had been, once. The last time they had participated in this particular dog-and-pony show.

For research purposes. Really.
Re: Districts 1-11!
Gabrielle certainly had no objections to District 11's fine specimen of a distraction, but it was only a momentary one; seeing his fellow district tribute, the elderly Mags, broke her heart just as much as it did to see Cecilia, the woman she remembered from the Reaping who'd had the three children.
She had a scroll of parchment in front of her and was already scribbling down notes, furiously; it might be Katniss's story that she'd promised to tell, but if there was any way she could help it, she wouldn't leave them out. Let the Capitol try to turn this into spectacle and drama -- it was pure cruelty, and she meant to make sure that was clear.
Re: Districts 1-11!
Flat. Flat. Flat.
... Okay, maybe twitching a little at some of the more unique costumes. It was bad enough these people were being forced into the games, they had to be humiliating by dressing up as cattle, or running around in nets, too?
District 12
Re: District 12
Whether it was deliberate or not, whether it was planned or not, the entire demeanor looked like a giant act of defiance. A refusal to play along with the show.
"Good for her," she said, softly.
Re: District 12
And once again, he knew that she was tough enough for this.

What else was there to say? Looking at Katniss, fierce and smouldering and looking straight ahead as if the rest of the world was completely beneath her, Warren almost entertained the thought that maybe things would be okay. Maybe she'd just sweep through and raze anything and everything to the ground that stood in her way.
And then reality kicked in again, and he settled back against the wall, frowning at the screen in thought.

Mutterings about wtf is wrong with the Capitol post-ceremony
Re: Mutterings about wtf is wrong with the Capitol post-ceremony
"A waste," she finally sighed as she began to roll up her notes. "They could be turning their best and brightest young people to the Capital, and instead they slaughter them."
