Office hours [all day]

Today was Anakin's 46th 28th. Totally 28th birthday and he was celebrating by working on his final exam questions and getting his students' grades together.

Anakin was clearly quite a party animal.

When he was finished, he would reward himself by watching a non-animated movie (there weren't a lot of chances for that at home) and having an adult beverage that didn't have to be kept in a spill-proof cup. And cake. Because there should always be cake at birthdays.

The door was open!

It was very strange for Jaina, realizing this was probably the last time she'd be walking into her grandfather's office like this for a while, but she was trying not to think about that too much at the moment.

Besides, she was here with a cupcake on a plate with an unlit candle in it. Nothing sad about that!

Anakin glanced up and grinned. "Jaina! How did your final exam turn out?"

"Everyone survived till the end of class. I think that means a successful semester," she smiled. "Happy birthday."

"Thank you," Anakin replied. "And yes, surviving to the end is a good start."

She placed the plate on his desk, taking her seat. "How about you? All ready to close out the year?"

"Skywalker," Kerrigan spoke from the doorway, where she had her arms crossed.

"Kerrigan," Anakin replied, glancing up. "Come in."

Kerrigan stepped into the room, arms dropping by her sides. There was something a little unnatural about the way she sat down, but she ignored it. "I'm leaving next week," she said, without much further ado, "Which I'm sure you'd want to know."

That was the official reason, anyway. The unofficial one being 'I'm leaving and I want to wring as much intel out of this place as I can'.

"You're not taking anyone back with you this time," Anakin replied.

It wasn't a question, really.

Tahiri hadn't been by to see Master Skywalker in quite a while, and it was partly realizing she didn't have many weeks' worth of opportunities left to do it that motivated her to come by today.

Mostly, though, it was another reason.

"Happy birthday," she said from the doorway, half smiling.

One way or another he was family as far as she was concerned. It was kind of necessary.

Anakin smiled back. "Thank you." He was a little surprised--and touched--that she remembered.

She almost hadn't. It had been a near thing.

"I thought about bringing you a present from home," Tahiri said, still lingering in the doorway, "but hubba gourds don't make very good conversation pieces."

And you definitely didn't want to eat them unless you absolutely had to.

"They do if you give one to someone who doesn't know any better and they eat it," Anakin replied with a laugh.

Katniss had come by simply to give Anakin the contact information for Haymitch and the schedule for the Games. But when she spotted the cupcake on his desk, she actually smiled. "Is it your birthday?" she asked, raising her brows.

"It is," he admitted, "though I also eat cupcakes on non-birthday days, when Juliet doesn't beat me to them."

"She's sweet," Katniss said, smiling softly. "Reminds me of Prim when she was small. You must be proud of her."

"Very," Anakin said, smiling. "I'm proud of all of my children."

Cake was not a usual fixture on Anakin's desk, so Raven noticed that straight off. "Is it your birthday?" she said as she arrived at his door.

"It is," Anakin said with a little smile. "Jaina dropped the cupcake off for me but I've been too busy to eat it."

"Happy birthday," Raven said, smiling widely. "I hope the coming year brings you peace and happiness."

"I'll settle for a break between people trying to harm my kids," Anakin said, "but yours sounds very nice. Thank you."

Leia hadn't really talked to Anakin since her return to Fandom, but she wasn't going to ignore her father's birthday.

"Happy birthday," she said, leaning against the door frame.

Anakin beamed at her. "Thank you. Come in."

"Just how old are you now?" she had to ask as she stepped inside his office. She could guess from his Luke's age, but he didn't look that old.

"Twenty-eight," he lied. "Time-travel issues. How have you been?"
