Office hours [all day]

Anakin was not alone in his office today, though it might be difficult to spot Juliet among the dozens of toys Anakin had showered her with since Sunday.

Not that he was feeling guilty that she'd been kidnapped from right under his nose. Really. At all. Just ask him!

He was already beginning the conga drum he'd bought her, but she seemed so happy banging away on it. The headache would probably be worth it, right?

No, Jaina knew nothing at all about guilt in a situation like that. She'd brought a present for no reason at all, really!

"Someone's having fun in here," she said from the doorway. Something told her the fun was not being had by Anakin.

"JAI!" Juliet squealed, toddling over.

"Oh, she's having a blast," Anakin said a little ruefully. "The drums are not coming home with us."

"Hi, sweetheart," Jaina said, scooping her up with one arm to show her the plane in her other hand. "I brought you something."

And to her grandfather, she winced and said, "I'm so sorry it makes noise."

"All toys make noise," Anakin replied, "at least until I fix them after she goes to sleep." He smiled grimly. "Why they leave the volume control out for a toddler to decide upon is a question for the ages. I fix that so that's hidden by the power switch."

Everyone needs hobbies?

"X-WING!" Juliet shouted gleefully. "MINE?"

The pilot part of her brain wanted to correct her that it wasn't actually an X-wing, but she could refrain from that when it came to a two-year-old. "Yep, all yours!"

Though, um. "They really leave volume up to the kids? Why do they hate the parents that actually buy these toys?"

"I don't know," Anakin whined, "but it's why I generally buy quiet things."

Like the half-dozen stuffed animals Juliet was sitting on.

...and a drum. SHHHH. Don't expect Anakin Skywalker to be rational.

She set Juliet down to let her play, raising an eyebrow. "That's the first thing I noticed when I came in. How quiet it was."

When Katniss wandered in, she was more than a little curious about the noise. And when she was surprised by the presence of a little girl, her face lit up in one of her rare, real smiles.

"You have company today," she said, grinning down at Juliet.

"I do," Anakin confirmed, smiling back. "This is my daughter, Juliet. Juliet, say hello to one of my students, Katniss Everdeen."

"'lo," Juliet whispered, hiding behind her doggie.

"Hi, Juliet," Katniss said, crouching down to wave at Juliet at her own eye level. "I like all your toys. Did your father get them for you?"

Juliet shook her head. "Book!" she added, holding one up.

"That was from her mother," Anakin translated. "We went a little overboard at ToysRUs yesterday."

"Ooooh," Katniss said appreciatively, looking at the book. "What kind of book is that, Juliet? Do you like to read?"

Surprisingly enough, Katniss not only liked children, but was pretty good with them. And this was a nice break from her usual office hours visits, in which she discussed her upcoming death and all.

Juliet nodded enthusiastically. "Llama!" she said, holding it up.

"She likes llamas," Anakin said with another smile. "And dogs. And dinosaurs. And princesses."

Juliet looked over. "No turtl."

"But not turtles today."

Rory really should have better things to do than text Anakin every few minutes, but the job search wasn't going that well.

hope so. she's running around making her own airplane noises. told her batteries died.

Anakin was a big ol' liar to his daughter when it came to how fast batteries died.
