Anakin was in his office with the door open, typing away furiously on his computer. He was learning that in order to enroll Juliet in the most prestigious preschool in their neighborhood in two years, he needed to have signed her onto a waiting list five years ago.

"How can I sign up a non-existant child for your school, you completely overrated morons?" he said aloud as he wrote.

He might want to get rid of the last part of the sentence befor sending it...

Karla had an ethical question. "Is hitting always wrong?" she demanded from Anakin's doorway.

Hello, Anakin. How are you doing?

Oh, sure, ask the guy who whaled on someone in a bar over the weekend for drinking a mojito and liking Dora the Explorer.

"Um," he answered eloquently. "I think it depends on context."

"Let's say someone is harassing you and you tell them to stop but they don't, so then you punch them. Is that bullying?"

For all her sanguine attitude about it yesterday with Ender, it had been preying on her a little throughout the night.

"I don't think so," Anakin said slowly, "but I tend to hit a lot of people."

"What would you say bullying is?" she asked, creeping a little further into the room.

"I'd say it's repeated attempts by someone to deliberately inflict pain on someone else," Anakin replied. "How does that sound to you?"

Karla mulled that over and nodded. "Closer to my definition," she said. "The other was an attempt to use physical force to change behavior. Which I guess also works--" Karla sounded hesitant about that "--but I don't think it fit the scenario very well."

Namely because she wasn't a bully. So there.

Jaina had to be gone in about an hour, but she even cut this morning's training a little short today in order to be able to stop by. "Long time, no see," she greeted him.

Anakin's face lit up. "Hello, stranger. How's teaching?"

[solo_sword]

"Still no detentions," she said, coming inside to take a seat. "Yourself?"

[sith_happened]

"Me either," he replied. "I'm starting to wonder if I'm losing my touch."

[solo_sword]

"Don't suppose you can give detentions for not participating..." Yes she was kidding.

Anakin smiled. "Your classroom, your rules," he said.

What an amazing ethics teacher he was!

"I'm somehow not that bad," she smiled. "I'm used to being harder on squadrons, though. When sixteen-year-olds behave all the time it throws off my whole world view."

Okay, so, Zack had actually been meaning to stop by Anakin's office for weeks, but Tuesday here and there had always managed to end up upside-down or inside out, or he'd just been too easily distracted by this or that or reserves or whatever to be able to manage it.

Which might have even been for the best. It meant that he had taken a bit of time to get his thoughts slightly sorted out before he came knocking on the doorframe and peering into the room.

"Heya?"

Anakin glanced up and smiled. "Come in, Zack."

Zack smiled a little right on back, making his way into the room.

"How are you doing, Professor Skywalker?"

Because he was such a well-trained puppy, Zack was already pulling up a chair and making ready to sit.

"It's been a trying few weeks," he admitted, "but not badly today. And you?"

Zack didn't answer right away, and quite deliberately so. If he were to open his mouth to reply without thinking about it first, the answer would have been 'fine,' and that would have been that, for his reasons for coming here.

"About the same," he managed to get out, instead. "I'm... sorry things haven't been doing so great for you."

He'd heard little bits on the radio about things not being good for lots of people, but there hadn't really been any details, and he didn't know most of them well enough to really stick his nose in to ask.

"You're not here to counsel me," Anakin replied with a small smile. "Tell me what's going on with you."

Right. Right. Zack pulled in a little breath, and the look on his face was something approaching sheepish for a moment, there. And then... not so much. Something tired, especially for Zack, who was usually so thorough about that smile, no matter how much it might sometimes have fallen short.

"You... Uh... Remember what I came in here and talked about before?" He bit his lip, and then shrugged. "About the things that people have said? About the future?"

It was Tuesday, and it was Rinoa's lunch break, and that meant stopping in to see Professor Skywalker. Someone who wasn't Rinoa might have worried that she was bothering him. Rinoa, personally, was too much of a princess to consider things like that. Most of the time, anyway.

"Hi," she said, lingering in the doorway. "Bad day?"

"The school system on this planet is ridiculous," Anakin bitched. "What can they possibly be teaching three year olds that is worth 25,000 dollars?"

Rinoa made a sympathetic face. "Nothing," she said. "It's a status symbol. A little mark on the permanent record that says, 'Mommy and Daddy have money and know important people.'"

Her father was one of the most powerful men in Galbadia. The way Rinoa acted, you would think he did it all just to spite her.

"I'll pay for a school when the primary requirement I'm looking for my daughter isn't 'won't eat paste,'" Anakin complained.
