Skywalker Apartment [late afternoon]

Anakin was halfway home when it dawned on him that the week he'd been stuck on the island (then stuck as a cat...) was the week of Rory's finals.

And she'd been home with a baby. Alone.

Which was why he was a little later than he had planned (though not by much, since he drove like a maniac), having stopped at a French bakery and then the florist for "Please don't kill me" gifts.

"Rory?" he called, stepping into the apartment. "Fandom pulled a nutty again..."

Rory actually did not emerge. But from the kitchen, Juliet squealed, "Daddydaddydaddy!" and toddled around the corner, clinging to the wall with a giggle.

"Hey, sweetheart!" Anakin said, face lighting up as he knelt down. "Did you miss me?"

"Cookie," Juliet informed him, showing him what she was holding.

Don't mistake that for her sharing, Anakin. She just wanted to show him how Mommy and Grandma had been feeding her in his absence.

"That's a big cookie," Anakin replied. "Will you share some?"

He wasn't counting on it.

"Mine!" she said, wide-eyed, clutching the cookie close.

"Are you trying to steal from our child?" Rory asked, moving out of the kitchen to finally watch the ongoings. She was torn between hilarity at Jaina's pictures and message, and irritation at having to survive the past week on her own.

"Well, I've spent the last few days eating cat food," Anakin said. "The cookie looks pretty good."

He held out the insanely large bouquet. "Sorry I couldn't call. You've probably gotten the backload of texts by now--the island cut off communication on Tuesday."

"Jaina told me yesterday," Rory replied, crossing her arms. "You, as always, make a fetching kitty."

"Kitty?" Juliet asked curiously.

He sighed. "I missed out on the big fight too. I was stuck in Jaina's laundry basket."

Beat.

"As a cat. She wasn't angry at me or something."

In this family, it was important to clarify.

"So it was a safety thing," Rory guessed, wandering in to scoop up Juliet.

"There was a guy in pants that were far too tight and hair worse than mine as a Padawan who'd taken a good handful of our students and refused to give them back," Anakin explained. "It was a very long, smelly week."

"What do you have against tight pants?" Rory wondered, still kind of enjoying letting him flail. It'd been a looong week.

Anakin was fully prepared to grovel for a while.

"These were really tight. They made Deadpool's pajamas look modest."

"Goodness," Rory said, eyes widening slightly.

"Goo-ness," Juliet mimicked solemnly.

"I would have looked better in them," Anakin declared, though he was wrong.

"Maybe. The thought of you in tight pants would have kept me company nicely during my finals, the last week of my senior year, when I was the single mother of a toddler," Rory offered dryly.

He took a few cautious steps toward her. "I'll be making that up to you for a long time, huh?" he guessed astutely.

Rory sighed. "I know it wasn't your fault or anything," she said carefully. "But it was hard."

"I'm sorry," he sighed, leaning his head into hers. "What can I do now?"

"Get her down for a nap, so I can ponder future groveling?" Rory suggested with a smile.

He smiled back and leaned in for a kiss. "That I can do," he said. "You could run a bath and I could join you?"

"I could do that," Rory said thoughtfully.

Juliet, meanwhile, ran over to cling to Anakin's leg. "Daddydaddy, play!"

Have fun with that, Anakin.

"How about we read a book and have a cup of milk instead?" Anakin wheedled.

"No more read," Juliet insisted. There had been a lot of reading, you see, with just Mommy. "Play! Playplayplay!"

Rory, meanwhile, smirked and started off towards their bathroom. "Enjoy."

Anakin waved his hand sadly at her before flopping down onto the floor. "Pillow fight?" he suggested.

Juliet considered this, chewing on her fist for a moment. "P'low fight," she agreed, giggling as a pillow flew at Anakin off the couch.

"Oh no, ambush!" Anakin cried, letting the pillow hit him in the face before sending it back at her very slowly through the Force.

Juliet giggled, toddling off with a shriek, lest the pillow get her!

"Juliet's too fast for the pillow!" Anakin cried. "Run run run!"

Tiring her out was good too?
