Cranky Jedi was cranky today.

Not that it had anything to do with a conversation he'd had with John at Flight Club yesterday. Nope. Really.

He was poking around jewelry websites and thinking of the friends he'd see over the weekend to try to distract himself.

It wasn't really working.

Jaina had said she would come back this week, and she thought she would follow through on that as part of the effort she was making. And since last night was the first time she'd been able to cuddle with her boyfriend in weeks, she was in a slightly better mood than usual.

So this was her knocking at the doorway before stepping inside.

Anakin's face lit up. "You came."

"I said I would," she reminded him.

[sith_happened]

"I wasn't sure if you'd count yesterday as having seen me," he replied.

[solo_sword]

She'd thought about it. "And then next time I saw you, I'd get called on that, let's face it," Jaina said.

He didn't bother denying it.

"Going to the dance?" he asked instead.

[solo_sword]

"Of course. I have an automatic date and everything now," she said. And she did love that even if she always assumed she was going with John, he still asked. "Are you going?"

Anakin nodded with a small smile. "It's kind of a big anniversary for Rory and me," he said.

[solo_sword]

That was all she needed to hear. "Happy anniversary. I'll stay out of your way," she promised.

"She always likes to see you," he said, sounding almost shy. "You don't have to avoid us or anything."

[solo_sword]

It still made her sort of uncomfortable, like she didn't need to be adding more relationships to her life. "We'll see," she said. "Those things tend to be a little crazy."

"'We'll see' tends to be diplomatic for 'not happening,'" Anakin replied. "Do you not like her?"

[solo_sword]

"No, I like her just fine," Jaina admitted. "It's just weird."

[sith_happened]

Anakin's jaw clenched. "It's not that weird."

It really was.

[solo_sword]

"From here, it is," she said evenly. "I do my best, but I'm kind of allowed to be uncomfortable."

[sith_happened]

"And the best way to stop being uncomfortable is definitely to ignore the entire thing," Anakin said, sounding a little hurt.

[solo_sword]

"I'm not doing this today," Jaina decided, deeply meaning that. "I'm not ignoring anything, but I kind of have bigger issues to deal with right now. One thing at a time."

It would never stop being weird, though. Not that she was going to say that.

"Bigger issues to deal with?" Anakin echoed immediately, deciding to be petulant another day.

[solo_sword]

She just looked at him, figuring if everyone had been on her case about them for the last two months, she didn't need to go into it.

Anakin gave her a soft smile. "I promised I wouldn't bring it up, but I am glad to hear you're working on them."

[solo_sword]

"Yeah. Anyway." Okay, maybe the other day still stung a little. "How are you?"

Anakin gave her an inquisitive look, but let the subject drop for the moment. "Wondering what the hell is wrong with some of the teachers around here," he admitted.

[solo_sword]

"Besides the same thing that's wrong with all the students and townies who live here?"

[sith_happened]

"I was thinking of a slightly more specific example," he said. "John told me about the flight workshop."

[solo_sword]

It took her a second to remember. "Oh, yeah. It was a day of drama." Maybe half a day.
