Ye olde shuttle parking [morning]

There was less than a week until Rory left.

Anakin was trying not to panic.

This...wasn't really working.

Which was why a slightly important part of the shuttle was in pieces around him as he tinkered around, his shirts and robe in a neatly folded pile on the shuttle ramp.

Rory wandered up and quietly leaned against the shuttle, waiting for him to notice her.

Anakin turned immediately to look at her, cheeks smudged with oil. "Hi," he said with a smile. "It'll be about five minutes. I was fixing the brakes."

"You have stuff on your face," she said softly.

"Do I?" Anakin asked, wiping at his face and managing to smudge it more. "It's so you know I was working hard."

"Hold still," Rory said, stepping a little closer and reaching out.

Anakin froze like she'd asked, eyes locking on hers.

Rory smoothed her thumb over the grease, smudging it away. "There."

Anakin forgot to breathe for a moment. "Am I allowed to say thank you, or is that tacky?" he murmured.

"You can say it," she whispered, tracing her fingertips over his cheek.

Because there was grease there or something.

"Thank you," Anakin murmured as his eyes fluttered closed.

"Welcome," she said softly, finally moving her hand.

It took him a little longer to remind himself that she didn't mean anything by it and open up his eyes. "Where to today?" he asked, fitting the last of the components together with the ease of long practice, then tossing his undertunic over his head, ignoring how it tousled his hair.

"It's my last one," she said softly. "Has to be somewhere good."

Anakin's eyes were shadowed. "You'll visit," he said, "and we can go up then."

He was denying with the best of them.

He bit his lip. "Where do you want to go? The universe is yours."

"A nebula," she said simply.

"I can do that," Anakin said quietly, giving her a smile and leading her up the ramp.

"You want to fly, or do I get to?" she wondered, trailing after him.

"I trust you," Anakin said, smiling a little more brightly, and that said more than he was willing to actually articulate at the moment.

Rory smiled softly, and took her spot in the pilot's seat. "Yay."

"You know the start-up sequence," he said, pulling a piece of paper from his pouch and circling a series of coordinates. "Punch in these numbers when we've cleared the atmosphere."

Rory glanced at the paper and nodded. "Okay," she replied, strapping in and beginning the sequence.

Anakin watched her carefully, a proud smile quirking his lips up when she didn't think she was watching.

Rory was completely oblivious, concentrating hard. Once they broke atmosphere, she punched in the coordinates from memory.

"Good," Anakin said, grinning. "Now activate the hyperdrive and we're on our way. And you can go get me a cup of caf."

That last part was totally teasing.
