Anakin's House That He is Super Regretting Being Next to Furnado, Sunday

Anakin had spent far too long corralling puppies and children (mostly the children. Christopher had been ecstatic to be outside in pajamas and had put himself on the top of the jungle gym, declared himself Emperor of Dogs and refused to come down for twenty minutes) and then had gone over to apologize to a gremlin (WHAT WAS HIS LIFE) and had ended up bitten (because of course he had) and thinking he was a singing shark.

So all he wanted was to go home, take a very hot shower, drink as much coffee as Rory had left behind and--

He sighed heavily as his house came into view. There was a unicorn bounce house fused to it somehow (he was blaming Nina without really knowing, and Rory and Prompto were cheerfully adding even more balloons and streamers and possibly a chocolate fountain in the front yard. "Happy birthday, honey!" Rory singsonged.

"I used to be feared across a galaxy," he muttered to himself, heading in.

For her part, Nina was sitting on the floor of his kitchen, glass of water beside her and sorting through more glittery decorations because once she'd managed the house feat, Prompto had taken one look at her pale face and made her sit down and this was about all she'd been able to talk him into letting her do.

But, really, it did give her time to upload all the pictures and video she'd taken, and it was kind of nice, really, especially since Miss Rory had been all for this madness once she'd caught them at it which meant that Prompto would have help.

Nina hummed the birthday song to herself, content with everything, right in that moment.

Today couldn't go without a call from Anakin's favorite granddaughter, could it?

No. It couldn't. Especially not when this was happening.

Oh, man, that could honestly not have gone better! Which was saying a lot because there were...so, so, soooooo many ways it could have gone wrong!

Prompto had also gotten so, so, sooooo many pictures to commemorate this beautiful perfection, and then there was a whole house bouncy house to take advantage of and, you know, help chase away the thoughts about how releasing a bunch of puppies and magically transforming the Citadel back home would not be nearly so much fun or successful.

Though he wouldn't put it past Nina to potentially try...

Liam was on his way to Il Pollo to order some takeout, and had decided to go the long way, because why not?

Clearly, the gods of coincidence or whatever were on his side, because going the long way meant he got to see... whatever this was.

"Wow," he said, stopping and just. Staring.

Anakin found her there when he came in for a glass of water. "Do I have you to thank for this?"

"Skywalker," Anakin replied, sounding resigned.

Anakin gave him a sour look that he only 70 percent meant. "Thanks," he said dryly. "Truly."

Nina giggled.

"Maaaybe," she said evasively, grinning up at him. "Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Yeah," Anakin said, bone-dry, "my life-long, secret dream of living in a life-sized unicorn bounce house has finally come true."

And Prompto couldn't have kept that smirk off his face even if he did try. Which he wouldn't. What's the worst that could have happened? He'd get kicked out of school? One more detention before he left where he might get another sweet helmet?

"You," said Prompto, who enacted a little bow, "are welcome. Happy birthday, man. We tried to, you know, make it...."

Hmm, what was the word? Oh, yeah....

"Memorable ."

"Thank you," Anakin said. "It's the most memorable I've had in years."

"I'm sure this will haunt my dreams for years to come, so mission accomplished," Anakin said.

"Solo," she responded. "I was going to say happy birthday but that sounded less than happy."

“We thought, like, the bigger the better??????????” she offered, completely unrepentant. “And, like, a party just didn’t seem............. exciting enough?????????????

And she wasn’t sure Bus Dean would appreciate a party the way he’d, ah, appreciate this!

"Happy to help!" Prompto said cheerfully. "And, hopefully, we've given Juliet and Christopher something to aspire to, too! Everyone wins!"

"This is definitely more exciting than a party," Anakin agreed. "How long have you been planning this?"

"It's been a very long day and my house is currently a giant unicorn bounce house," he said.

"I don't feel like I'm really winning," Anakin said wryly. "My kids already jump through portals for fun."

There was a long, long pause.

"...It's a what?"

"Was this your handiwork?" Liam asked, although he was pretty sure he knew the answer.

Anakin took a picture with his comm and sent it to her. "Unicorn bouncy castle."

It was very pink.

"That's a very odd, very specific dream to have," Liam commented, biting back a smile. "But I'm happy for you."

Another pause as Jaina looked at the picture, and then there might've been some muffled laughter.

"Everyone but you in that house loves it, huh?"

Oh, Nina you might as well tell him the truth.

“I got the bounce house last June???????????????????”

So. Uh. A while.

Nina grinned up at him, face still paler than normal but her enthusiasm undaunted.

“It worked even better than I’d hoped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” she said blissfully.
