Was Anakin getting a visit from a mysterious robed figure with a tightly drawn in Force presence because Skywalkers didn't have a monopoly on drama?

There was, perhaps, the faintest sound of wings before the steady click, click, click of heeled boots in the hall.

And a pale woman clad in red and black stood in Anakin's door. The resemblance to one of his students, once you got past the hair color, was fairly uncanny.

"I hear you teach ethics."

Darth Vowrawn looked around the small and rather unimpressive office and at the human with the odd hair and drab robes.

"You're the Dean, are you?"

He wasn't impressed so far. Even if the man clearly had some presence in the Force, he had no sense of style.

True, but they held majority interest. "May I help you?" Anakin asked.

"I do," Anakin said, nodding. "Would you like to come in?"

He'd left his sense of style back in his castle on a planet made of lava.

"I am," he said. "May I help you?"

After reaching out into the Force to see if there were any of those squirrels about, Satele pulled back her hood. "Perhaps."

And if she seemed slightly less friendly than she had with Tony, well, someone didn't feel squeaky clean in the Force.

"Are you here about a particular student?"

"Yes." Though she didn't specify further yet, instead letting her robes drop open enough to reveal the lightsaber at her hip. Mostly to see what he'd do.

Because nothing got Anakin faster on side than a member of the Jedi Council being judgmental at him, Satele.

She did get the lip purse of disapproval. "Those were supposed to be checked," he said, "Master ---?"

"Shan." There were plenty of Shans in the galaxy, and in the Order, most of whom she wasn't even related to. "And I was unaware of that."

That was what happened when you deliberately skipped registration. Though whether she'd have given it up if she hadn't...

"Parents not from our galaxy get strange about weapons," Anakin said. "I'm guessing you skipped the welcome picnic."

In favor of lurking?

It sounded creepy when you called it that, Anakin.

"It was irrelevant to my interests."

Namely stalking Theron.

"The Jedi aren't interested in free snacks when you come from?" Anakin asked dryly.

Maybe when Satele had been Theron's age...

"And the Sith are?" she replied with a question of her own, testing, testing, and wondering why he'd said when.

"What precisely do you do here?" Darth Vowrawn asked. "What influence do you have on the teachers and students?"

Anakin blinked. "I've never really wondered about their snack intake."

Satele raised an eyebrow.

She wasn't going to come out and flatly accuse him, if he felt Dark enough for that she wouldn't be speaking with him, but the implication was there.

Well, Anakin wasn't going to admit to anything aloud, he wasn't an idiot. "No one is so far down that path that they can't return," he said instead. "It's been a very a long time since I came back."

Anakin blinked. "I'm not sure what you're looking for me to tell you. I'm the ethics teacher and the Dean of Students, which means I'm here for any student with a problem to confide in me."

"All very interesting, I'm sure," and it was - ethics, honestly? - "but what is it you actually do?" Darth Vowrawn asked. "Do you direct the forms of study here? Choose the instructors? Dictate the grading?"

That was true, and there were enough in the Order (and her own ancestry) who could say the same.

Of course, none of them were teaching her son.

"An interesting choice for an ethics teacher, then."

"That's Zoe Winchester, the head of the school, and the school board itself more generally," Anakin said. "I dictate the grading in my own classrom."

"So what precisely is it that you do?" Darth Vowrawn asked.

"Right now, deal with extremely irritating people," Anakin said.

"You don't enjoy being questioned, do you?" Darth Vowrawn said, unperturbed. "Do you have any purpose here?"

"None at all," Anakin deadpanned. "My life is completely without purpose and I get nothing at all out of teaching young minds."

"Is it?" Darth Vowrawn raised an eye ridge.

[sith_happened]

"Of course not," Anakin snapped. "Are you from a time without sarcasm?"

Darth Vowrawn smiled. "You haven't had much diplomatic experience, have you? The other Jedi was much better at it." Kanan had offered him tea, for a start.

He paced slowly to one end of the room, to all intents and purposes giving Anakin negligible attention. After a moment, he sighed.

"Very well, since you seem to have an impaired facility for communication, I suppose I'll get directly to the point. There's a student here under my purview. I was led to believe that this island was neutral space, but it's come to my attention that, being from other times, the Jedi here may not be bound by the Treaty of Coruscant. I should like to verify my student's safety in light of this knowledge."

He turned back to Anakin. "Are you prepared to guarantee that?"
