Anakin was in his office in a cardigan and tie, his hair carefully slicked back and parted, puffing on a pipe as he flipped through his radio station searching for a station that wasn't playing the Devil's music.

Ahh, Lawrence Welk.

Perfect!

Anakin's door was open, and he was happy to provide you with fatherly advice as long as you weren't asking for a raise in your allowance.

"I don't understand this completely handwavy form the school board is asking me to fill out," Tyrion complained from Anakin's doorway.

Not that paperwork was Anakin's problem, exactly, but he had a fancier title than Tyrion did. More importantly, he was in the office and thus prime target for bitching.

And then he took a second look. "You're gray."

"No," Anakin said with a chuckle, "I'm Anakin, but everyone calls me Al."

No one in his entire life had called him Al.

Tyrion blinked.

"And everyone calls me the halfman, but Tyrion will suffice," he said. "Are you feeling quite well ... Al?"

"Oh, quite," he assured him. "Smoking kills off all of the bad germs, you know."

"I never heard that," Tyrion said, and now he was almost certain the island was playing with people again.

Which meant, of course, that the thing to do was to play along. "Is there anything else I should take up to stay healthy?"

"Well, the womenfolk really seem to enjoy the Hula Hoop," Al said after a thoughtful pause and exhale of smoke, "but I mostly keep fit through work in the garden. A man's home is his castle, you know, and what kind of castle would have an unruly yard? Oh, and bowling night tonight, of course. You're welcome to join us."

There was no us, but there would be bowling.

"I once had to clean the gutters at my family ... castle by hand," Tyrion shared. "It gave me a very special appreciation of what it takes to keep a home presentable. And I'll see about the bowling, but thank you for the invitation."

After the last week, Jaina felt this was probably a good day to see her grandfather.

At least, she did until she got a look at him.

"New look?"

"We men have to stick together," Anakin replied earnestly, nodding.

"No, just a trim," Anakin said, "but thank you for noticing."

So there was weirdness and it was something she could have fun with. "See, something's different about you and I don't think it's that..."

Anakin leaned forward and puffed on his pipe. "I'm listening."

At least until she brought up feelings. Feelings were scary and un-Fifties.

"Oh, that's it, you've taken up smoking." Yes she was going to tell her Luke and Leia about this. And the ones here too.

"If we don't the womenfolk will scheme us out of everything."

Which was ridiculous, but now Tyrion was wondering how far Anakin -- sorry, Al -- would go with it.

"Smoking is healthy," Anakin told her.

And distinguished. Look how that pipe brought out the best in his cardigan!

"And that would delay dinner!"

Tyrion feigned astonishment. "And then we'd have to drink on an empty stomach!"

"And then get nagged at about that, like it wasn't her fault I didn't have anything to eat before!"

Tyrion, unable to help himself, laughed. "Do you remind her who the master is then?" he asked. "Or do you let her talk her way out of it?"

"Oh, I let her talk her way out," Anakin said, because he was a caring, gruff '50s man.

"Then you're a good husband," Tyrion decided.

"I certainly like to think so," Anakin said. "We met in high school, you know."

Tyrion shook his head; he hadn't known that, and wasn't even sure it was true when Anakin was in his right mind. "Were you sweethearts?" he asked, biting back his bitterness.

Ah, Tysha. He was still sorry.

"Yes," Anakin said with a fond smile, staring into the distance photogenically. "We've been married for years now."

Some amount of years. It seemed kind of hazy today.

Now she had to ask.

"...Healthy? How?"

[sith_happened]

"The smoke kills off the germs," Anakin said.

It was science, Jaina! Science!

"And what about your lungs?" She just wanted to know what he'd say.

"The smoke makes them resilient!"

Yeah.

[solo_sword]

"Preeetty sure that's not how it works, but okay," she nodded.

[sith_happened]

"Well, you're a woman," Anakin pointed out. "Science is hard for you."

Jaina raised an eyebrow. "When you get your brain back, you're going to pay for that comment in sparring," she decided.

"Sparring?" Anakin chuckled warmly. "I don't hit girls."

[solo_sword]

"Like I'd give you the chance anyway," she shot back.

Anakin looked really confused at that. "You hit people? On purpose?"

"When they deserve it," she said, a little proudly.

[sith_happened]

"Violence is never the answer," Anakin counseled.

[solo_sword]

"Really? Because it seems to be the answer to most of my problems," Jaina said.

[sith_happened]

"That's terrible!" Anakin exclaimed. "Your boyfriend should be better at making sure you aren't worried."

"Oh, so that's his job?" She was pretty sure Jag would never stop laughing at that one.

"Of course," Anakin said. "A man's job is to provide."

[solo_sword]

"And if I said I don't need that?"

She was pretty much baiting him there, because there was no possible way she'd be happy with the answer.

Anakin gawked at her. "Of course you do."

[solo_sword]

"And- hear out my crazy woman talk here- what if I said I was totally capable of providing for myself?" Jaina frowned.

"You mean college?" Anakin finally tried.

This was turning into a Very Special Episode!

"I skipped college," she said.

Though she'd been to a couple lectures because John had been mean!

"Well, I don't think women need higher education anyway."

Somewhere Rory had a strong urge to kick her husband.

"I'm so telling Rory you said that," Jaina said.

[sith_happened]

"If you do, please mention that I'd like pot pie for dinner tonight," he added.
